Milia Removal.

Often mistaken for ‘whiteheads’, Milia is a small keratin-filled mass, trapped under the surface of the skin. Milia is a superficial skin condition, most commonly found on the face and is not harmful. However, they can often be incredibly stubborn to remove and usually require a professional aesthetic-beauty therapist to extract safely and effectively.

symptoms & causes
of milia

Milia can appear anywhere on the face and body; most commonly present on the face and around the eyes. Milia is a trapped, keratin-filled ‘spot’ that appears as pearly-white bumps on the skin. The keratin-filled milia occurs when there is a build-up of dead skin cells which have not been naturally exfoliated from the skins epidermis.

At Lesley Leale-Green…

…our aesthetic skin experts can safely and effectively treat and remove milia.

milia pREVENTION

Milia is caused by a build up of dead skin cells that have not exfoliated, naturally off of the skins surface. Regular exfoliation - such as microdermabrasion or enzyme exfoliants - can help to reduce the appearance of milia. Your aesthetic-skin therapist will be able to provide you with personalised recommendations.

Treatment for milia

At Lesley Leale-Green, our aesthetic-skin therapists can safely and effectively treat and remove milia.

A consultation, prior to treatment is always recommended, to allow your therapist to assess and discuss your treatment options which, will be dependant on the location and size of the milia to be treated. Your therapist will also advise you on the correct skin care routine to follow at home to prevent further milia occurring.

Commonly, milia is removed using a specialised needle or by electrolysis. Once the skin has been prepared and cleansed, a sterile needle is used to create a minor incision of the skin tissue surrounding the milia. The content of the milia is then carefully extracted and the skin is treated, to aid healing and regeneration.
